About Dental Implants
A dental implant is a titanium replacement for a tooth root structure. It consists of an implant screw or body an abutment and a crown so it is essentially three pieces.
Most offices will refer the patient out to have the surgical placement done in a specialist's office which can lead to a higher expense. The advantage of Dr. Zimmermann, who has placed over three thousand implants, is that it's all done under one roof. This saves the patient time and money and Dr. Zimmermann is able to pass the savings onto the patients.
The implant placement can take less than 5 minutes to place with a local anesthesia. Implants can replace one tooth. Implants can be used to anchor dentures using as little as two to four implants on the lower jaw and 4-6 implants on the upper jaw enabling the patient to have a paletteless denture removing all of the plastic from the roof of the mouth.
Dr. Zimmermann uses the latest 3-D technology to understand the optimal places to secure the implants in the best bone areas of the mouth. Dental implants are very successful and usually have a 98 percent success rate. Smoking and diabetes are contraindications to having implants placed but the good news is if the diabetes is under control it's usually not a problem. All smoking should stop two weeks prior to implant placement and it's recommended that no more smoking continue after that.
